Abstract Purpose of Review Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols are multimodal and multi-professional strategies to enhance postoperative convalescence thereby reduce the length hospital stay hospital-associated complications. This review provides an up-to-date overview about basic principles enhanced protocols, their transfer into cardiac surgery, current state evidence. It is supposed offer clinical implications for further adaptations implementations such in surgery. Recent Findings ERAS a story success numerous surgical disciplines led paradigm shift perioperative care establishment Cardiac Society, non-profit organization that evidence-based guidelines recommendations development trying harmonize many existing efforts individual approaches Summary Promising results from comprehensive emerged.
